Dam Safety
Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for dam safety analyses, evaluations, and designs.
Watershed hydrologic modeling to determine inflow volumes and discharges for various return intervals up to and including the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). One- and two-dimensional routing of inflow hydrographs through dam storage reservoirs. Evaluation of outflow hydraulics including closed conduit principle spillways and earthen and constructed emergency or auxiliary spillways. Evaluation of auxiliary spillway stability and integrity according to NRCS TR-60 criteria. Computation of reservoir stage-storage-discharge relationships. Alternatives analysis for dam rehabilitation measures including alternative cost estimates. Dam breach and failure outflow hydrograph determination. Downstream inundation mapping of dam failure outflows and auxiliary spillway flows using one- and two-dimensional hydraulic routing models including HEC-RAS and FLO-2D. Downstream inundation mapping can also be used to assess economic cost-benefit analysis for NRCS requirements. Emergency Action Plan (EAP) development and updating to comply with state dam safety requirements.
