Hermit Peaks/Calf Canyon Post Wildfire Watershed Restoration Plan • JE Fuller

Hermit Peaks/Calf Canyon Post Wildfire Watershed Restoration Plan

Project Description

Multiple counties in New Mexico experienced catastrophic impacts to many streams and rivers from the Hermit Peaks and Calf Canyons Fires in 2022. Rainfall events following the fires caused significant flooding in the towns of Las Vegas and Mora, among other unincorporated communities. JE Fuller was contracted to conduct a landscape scale post-fire risk assessment of areas impacted by the fires. The assessment included hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of fifteen impacted watersheds (1,200 square miles), a geomorphic assessment of the erosion potential in the watershed, and a prioritization of assets at risk from flooding, sediment and debris, or erosion. JE Fuller is currently designing mitigation alternatives for high priority areas identified in
the risk assessment.
