Magma Regional Flood Control Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment

Project Description

JE Fuller Hydrology & Geomorphology, Inc. provided environmental, engineering, and economic analysis services for an NRCS-funded Watershed Plan–Environmental Assessment (Plan-EA) in the Middle Magma Watershed near Florence, Arizona. Conducted in partnership with NRCS Arizona and in compliance with NEPA and Public Law 83-566, the project aimed to address persistent flooding and erosion issues in the Magma Flood Control District.

JE Fuller’s work included:

  • Preparing an NRCS-compliant Plan-EA

  • Evaluating feasible flood mitigation alternatives

  • Analyzing environmental, cultural, and socioeconomic impacts

  • Coordinating closely with cooperating agencies and stakeholders

A key component was extensive public engagement, ensuring a transparent process that integrated feedback from a diverse set of interest groups. This helped balance competing priorities and enhance decision-making.

The project concluded with the completion of the final Plan-EA and Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSIs) for all cooperating federal agencies, marking a critical step toward implementing long-term flood risk reduction strategies.
